The New Jersey Nets did some house cleaning in an attempt to save some more money during their disaster of a season. The soon-to-be Brooklyn-based franchise and former And1 point guard Rafer Alston agreed to a contract buyout, the terms of which were not disclosed. Following the termination of Alston's contract, the Nets then swung a deal with the Miami Heat to acquire seldom-used point guard Chris Quinn and a 2012 second-round draft pick, in exchange for a heavily protected 2010 second-round draft pick.

Since Alston was bought out, he will be free to sign with any team after he clears waivers on Thursday at 6pm. It is expected right now that Alston will sign with the Miami Heat, to serve on his second tour of duty with the ballclub, and he will likely take over the reserve-point guard spot from Carlos Arroyo once he joins the team.
In 23 games with the Nets this season, Alston started 13 of them and had averages of 9.7 points and 3.9 assists per game, marks that are just under his career averages.
Meanwhile, Chris Quinn had yet to appear in a game with the Heat thus far this season. He averages 4.6 points and 2.6 assists for his career.
